Reports: Officer Shot in Sellersburg Standoff

Update: Authorities in southern Indiana have taken a suspect into custody after an hours-longstandoff during which a police officer was wounded and a K-9 unit apparently was killed.

Sellersburg Police Chief Russ Whelan says the suspect was taken into custody and was not injured, The Courier-Journal reports. The suspect was not identified, and Whelan says formal charges are pending.

Indiana State Police say an officer was being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries after being shot in the leg earlier in the day during the standoff. A police dog that was sent into the house did not return and police earlier said they believed it had been killed.

Earlier: Shots have been fired at the scene of a SWAT standoff in Sellersburg, and Indiana State Police say an officer and a police dog were shot, according to media reports.

The suspect has been barricaded inside a structure in the Hill-n-Dale neighborhood.
