Rudell Stitch, Paul Rogers and a Golf Course Among Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

The 2014 inductees into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame includes athletes, coaches, a broadcaster—and a golf course.

Six humans and a 486-plot of land in southeastern Jefferson County will have golden plaques honoring their selection hanging in Freedom Hall.

The president of the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame, Jim Ellis, made the announcement at the KFC Yum! Center.

Here are the inductees:

·         Paul Rogers:  Sportscaster. Has worked U of L football and basketball play-by-play and more than 30 Kentucky Derbys.

·         Susan Bradley-Cox:  Endurance Athlete. Former University of Kentucky cheerleading coach, most decorated female age group athlete in United States triathlon history, first Kentucky woman to compete in Kona Ironman competition.

·         Stan Hardin:  Fairdale High School basketball coach.  One of five coaches to win back-to-back state championships.  Founder of King of Bluegrass Basketball tournament.  Career coaching record of 395-288.

·         Rudell Stitch:  Boxer.  Five-time Kentucky Golden Glove champion.  Two-time Carnegie Hero Medal winner.  Was 2nd ranked boxer in the world when he died in Ohio River while attempting to save someone from drowning.

·         Bill Miller:  PRP High School baseball coach.  Five-time state champion coach.  Most wins all time among Kentucky baseball coaches.  Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association "Coach of the Year" four times.

·         Redd Crabtree:  Rider, trainer, breeder of American Saddlebred horses for more than 60 years.  Three-time winner of the World’s Grand Championship for Five-Gaited Saddlebreds at Kentucky State Fair. A founder and president of United Professional Horsemen’s Association.

·         Valhalla Golf Club:  Opened in 1986. One of Golf Digest’s ‘America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses.’  Host of several major golf tournaments, including the upcoming PGA Championship, set for August 4-10.

The inductees will be honored in June during a banquet at the Crowne Plaza.  All proceeds from the event will benefit Kosair Charities.  Click here for ticket information.
