Sights and Sounds: The Allure of Serious Fireworks in Southern Indiana

Louisvillians are getting their fireworks ready for the Fourth of July weekend.Jefferson County law prohibits the purchase and lighting of the airborne stuff—but there's a way to get serious fireworks. Related: Hey Louisville, Keep the Fireworks Away From Buildings and People This Fourth of JulyOn Thursday, we visited two fireworks sellers: Powder Keg in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and a stand at the corner of Hancock Street and Broadway in Louisville.How busy was the Louisville seller? What brought people to the Indiana shop?Listen to what customers had to say:At Powder Keg, we followed a family purchasing fireworks for their weekend festivities. Hunting for fireworks called Dragon Fart and Roman Candles, Logan Murphy and his two daughters, Raven and Baylee, stocked up for the Fourth of July weekend.

In Louisville, we spoke with Donald Threeblood, a local man from South Louisville who is helping his family sell fireworks within the city. Many of Threeblood's clientele were getting sparklers or poppers for their children —no so much a big bang.While Powder Keg was teeming with customers, Threeblood's stand has remained bleak the last few days. Alhough Threeblood hoped his sales will pick up Thursday afternoon, but among these fireworks sellers, Southern Indiana's—and the big-time fireworks—was doing better business.
