As the Slant Culture Theatre Festival gears up for its third annual fringe-ish festival of performing arts, the core group of producing companies — Walden Theatre (who also play host), Theatre [502], Savage Rose Classical Theatre, Le Petomane Theatre Ensemble and Louisville Improvisors — are now taking applications from other performers, artists, and ensembles who want to participate in the next festival, scheduled for November 13-23. Slant Culture's motto is "Playful Experiments -> Dramatic Results." In last year's festival, one of the shows with the most buzz was guest performer Baby Horse Theatre Group's masks-and-death-metal adaptation of John Ford's tragedy "'Tis Pity She's a Whore," which won the Slant Guest Audience Award, vying with resident company Savage Rose's Theatre du Grand-Guignol double-header for most delightuflly creepy production. But this is also the kind of festival that welcomed Pandora Productions' staging of Silas House's emotional equality-in-Appalachia play "This Is My Heart for You" and has a strong tradition of single-performer shows, too. Prospective festival performers should fill out an application (find it here). Deadline to file is June 15, and filing information can be found on the application.
