Soldier Convicted of Killing Iraqi Family Commits Suicide
A medical examiner says a former Kentucky-based soldier hanged himself at the federal prison where he was serving life sentences for raping and killing a teenage Iraqi girl and fatally shooting three members of her family.
Prison officials in Arizona found 28 year old Steven Dale Green dead in his cell Saturday.
Green, from Midland, Texas, was a private in the 101st Airborne Division based at Fort Campbell when he deployed to Iraq.
The killings took place at the family’s home south of Baghdad in March of 2006. Three other soldiers are also serving prison sentences in the case.
Green was spared a death sentence by a federal jury in Paducah.
