Something in the Water: Talking Kentucky Literature with Frank X Walker
Danville native Frank X Walker made history last week when Governor Steve Beshear appointed him the next Kentucky poet laureate. Walker is the state’s first African American poet laureate, and at 51, he’s also the youngest.
Walker is the author of five collections of poetry. He teaches in the English department at the University of Kentucky, where he also directs the African American and Africana Studies program.
WFPL’s Erin Keane spoke with Walker about the state's literary landscape, the long history of writers of color in Kentucky and what poetry can and can’t do for racial reconciliation.
