UK's Calipari Trying to Get Players 'Thinking Right' After Late-Season Skid
University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari says he takes the blame for his team’s recent struggles.
The Wildcats have dropped two straight games—including a home loss to Arkansas and Saturday’s upset at South Carolina—heading into the final week of the regular season.
Calipari was ejected from the South Carolina game after receiving two technical fouls. He's also come under some criticism for not attending his post-game press conference.
UK fell from 17th to 25th in this week’s AP poll.
At his regular press conference today in Lexington, Calipari said his players are trying to get back on track.
"You deal with it and you move on. And now how do we get this team thinking right? (It's a) great group of kids, just young. Like I’ve said to them, I’m not saying that an 18 or 19 year old kid is responsible, I’m responsible," he said.
Kentucky hosts Alabama in the Wildcats’ home finale Tuesday, then finishes the regular season Saturday at top-ranked Florida.
The Louisville Cardinals are coming off a loss at Memphis, their second defeat of the season by the Tigers. They’ll travel to SMU Wednesday then finish the regular season at home Saturday against Connecticut.
Indiana faces Nebraska and Michigan this week.
