Rand Paul's PAC Backs Todd Akin

US Senate Photographic Studio-Fr

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is running ads in support of controversial Republican Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin in his bid to unseat Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill. For the past week, RandPAC has been targeting Senate Democrats for voting against Paul's proposal to cut foreign aid to Libya, Egypt and Pakistan. The blistering ads have been running in key Senate races in Ohio, West Virginia and Florida, but have been criticized by high-profiled Republicans such as Sen. Lindsay Graham of South Carolina.Watch:The RandPAC entry into Missouri has certainly raised eyebrows due to Akin's "legitimate rape" comments a month ago. Others point out that at least 30 Senate Republicans—including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell—voted against Paul's proposal to cut foreign aid.Paul's blistering ad could be seen as another sign that the GOP is warming back up to Akin, but political observers note that Kentucky's junior Senator has his own ambitious to go national in mind.
