Republican Senate Contender Matt Bevin 'Called of God,' Says Glenn Beck

Republican Matt Bevin is a Heaven-sent choice for Kentucky voters in the upcoming U.S. Senate primary election. That's according to conservative radio show host Glenn Beck, who gave a rousing speech at a rally for conservative grassroots  activists over the weekend.Beck was the keynote speaker at FreePAC Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. The event that was organized by FreedomWorks and featured a number of tea party activists and candidates from across the country and state, including Bevin, who spoke on a variety of issues.Holding up historic relics to pinpoint certain fights against Nazism, socialism and radical Islam, Beck praised Bevin as the alternative that Kentucky conservatives have prayed for."I will tell you I met the guys you had speaking.  Some of them I've met several times," he said. "Matt Bevin, I have not met. I’ve talked to him several times and I had a good feeling. But I am telling you, I believe that man was called of God."Organizers estimate that over 3,500 people attended the event, which was aimed at training grassroots activists ahead of the upcoming election. Those at the assembly also heard from speakers such as FreedomWorks President and CEO Matt Kibbe, Senate candidate Chris McDaniel of Mississippi, and Bevin, who spoke just before Beck took the stage.During Beck's speech, the former Louisville radio shock jock was especially critical of Bevin's opponent, incumbent Sen. Mitch McConnell, saying the GOP leader was no better than the current president."I told you at the very beginning what this administration tries to do to you, and what the progressives on the right--let me tell you something, Mitch McConnell is as a big of a danger to this country as Barack Obama is," said Beck. "The progressive disease is in both parties. Big government is a philosophy in both parties."Beck told told the crowd that voters are about to put McConnell "out of business very soon."The McConnell campaign punched back during the event, however, saying while the senator is working for Kentuckians that Bevin "clowns around with out of state groups." They also dinged some of the speakers for saying Social Security was a "ponzi scheme."Watch:McConnell campaign adviser Josh Holmes highlighted the contrast via Twitter:

While Beck and other speakers took jabs at McConnell, Bevin's speech avoided mentioning the senator by name.Instead, Bevin, a Louisville businessman, recited passages from Thomas Paine  and urged supporters to get out the vote while taking indirect jabs at McConnell for refusing to join any debates."What kind of leader wants to punch his followers in the nose? What kind of leader wants to crush the very people that he expects like sheep to then get in line and follow along behind him? Let me tell you, this is America," said Bevin."If you are such a revered, and powerful, and thoughtful, and all-knowing and so necessary to have type of leader, why would you be afraid to debate?"
