Senator Mitch McConnell Joins Congressional Delegation to Afghanistan and Israel

Joined by a delegation of lawmakers, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., announced Monday that he and four other senators recently completed a trip to Afghanistan and Israel.From McConnell's office: During their trip, the Senators met with U.S. military personnel, military officials and political leaders to discuss political, economic and security issues affecting bilateral and regional relations. In addition to visiting with troops from their respective states, the Senators met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Major General Larry Nicholson, and General John Allen, Commander of the International Security Assistance Force. The delegation returns to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.McConnell was joined on the trip by Sens. John Barrasso, R-Wy., Jeff Flake, R-Az., Ted Cruz, R-Tx., and Deb Fischer, R-Ne.Last week, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., completed his trip to the Middle East that included meetings with leaders in Israel, which observers say is a setup of a potential 2016 presidential bid.
