Set Up the House: The First Beer’s on Coach Walz for Thursday’s U of L Women’s Game

University of Louisville women’s basketball coach Jeff Walz is offering some fans a special treat for Thursday night’s  game against LSU.

The coach is buying a round of beer.

Thursday is $2 beer night for certain brands as the Cards take on the Tigers in a semifinal game of the preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament at the KFC Yum Center.

Walz will spring for cold ones for the first 2,500 fans of legal drinking age.

He says it’s a gesture of gratitude to loyal Cards fans.

“(And I’m) just trying to get some of these fans who haven’t come out before, come on out one time, get yourself a drink, enjoy the ballgame, and hopefully grab the attention of a few more fans,” Walz said this week.

One beer voucher will be given to each fan who has a proper ID.   U of L officials say the giveaway does not violate any NCAA rules.

The U of L women’s team, which advanced to the NCAA title game last season, is ranked fourth and fifth in the coaches’ and AP polls.
