Sick & Tired: Obstacle to Better Health for Racial Minorities Fades in Kentucky

This is the second story in a four-part series.

Louisvillian William Devoe Sr. hasn’t had health insurance in 15 years. He couldn't afford it. But this past spring, Devoe, a janitor who works at the Nia Center on Broadway, discovered during a health fair there that he qualified for Medicaid. For racial minorities in Kentucky, access has been a major obstacle to getting health care. But that's changing.
