Snow (Again) Expected in Louisville Area

Update 4:33 p.m.: LatestDowntown Louisville is getting a rain/snow mix at the moment, but the National Weather Service is still forecasting two to four inches of snow (with more to the north) and cautioning about the Friday afternoon commute. In its latest update, the weather service said the mix will convert to snow in theafternoon through evening as it heads south.

Update 12:04 p.m.: UofL Closing EarlyThe University of Louisville is closing at 2 p.m. All classes that start at 2 or after are canceled and offices will be closed. UofL adds: "Visit www.UofLphysicians.com for closings or delays of the practices or clinics."Update 10:30 a.m.: Latest Weather ForecastSouthern Indiana may get as much as six inches of snow into early Saturday morning and Louisville may get as much as four inches, the National Weather Service said in its latest update.Here's a timing forecast from theweather service's update:

As of this moment, the weather service is forecasting rain or snow in Louisville before 3 p.m. Friday. Much of Southern Indiana will be under a winter storm warning from noon Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday; Louisville and surrounding areas south the Ohio River will be under a winter weather advisory during the same times.Update 9:20 a.m.: More SchoolsOldham County Schools are going with a tw0-hour early dismissal, too, because of the expected weather. The times are "12:20 p.m. for elementary and 1:45 p.m. for middle and high school," according to the announcement.Update 7 a.m.: More Schools Dismissing EarlyWest Clark Community Schools will dismiss two hours early on Friday.And Clarksville High and Clarksville Middle schools will dismiss early, too—but Clarksville Elementary will be on a normal schedule.Earlier: Jefferson County Public Schools are closed Friday because of winter weather in the forecast. A few other school districts are planning early dismissal.Hazardous traveling conditions are "likely" in the Louisville area during the Friday afternoon commute, the National Weather Service said.Here's the rundown of area schools that have changed their plans for Friday:

A wintry mix of precipitation is expected to begin at about noon in southern Indiana and in the early afternoon in Kentucky, the weather service said. It'll then change over to snow.The Louisville area may two to four inches of snow, the weather service said:

In its morning report on thesnow forecast, the weather service said: "The heaviest snow will fall generally from 3 p.m. EST this afternoon through 10 p.m. EST this evening. Snow may become heavy for a period late this afternoon ... significantly reducing visibility." The weather service urged motorists to give themselves extra time to reach destinations Friday afternoon and evening.This is the ninth missed school dayfor JCPS. It makes the last day of school June 10.
