So It Very Possibly May Snow (and More) in Louisville on Friday

It's probably going to snow Friday. It's probably going to be a mess. That's the word from the National Weather Service in Louisville. They're expecting one to five inches of snow (and sleet and freezing rain), depending on what part of Louisville we're talking about. Here's a graphic the NWS posted Thursday afternoon:

Louisville is under a Winter Storm Warning from 10 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Saturday. In Louisville, morning rain is expected to transition into sleet, freezing rain and snow at about the same time as most commuters start heading for work, said Joe Sullivan, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Louisville.“Obviously, the roads are going to be a mess because of people driving on it and not handling it well," Sullivan said. "One of the things you probably know, when it rains in Louisville there seems to be a lot of accidents. Well, change that rain into a little bit of sleet or snow and you’re talking about a bunch of traffic snarling up tomorrow.”There's a question of whether the freezing rain—a particularly odious problem—will stick to roads that are being well-traveled, he said. Either way, the forecast as of Thursday evening indicates that the snow will accumulate in Louisville throughout the afternoon. Here's a little more info from the weather service. Here's a snow plow map from Louisville Metro government, should that become needed.State road crews are reporting for work at midnight and will monitor when the rain becomes sleet, snow, etc., the state transportation cabinet said. Here's info on the state's priority routes.A Jefferson County Public Schools spokesman said they're monitoring the situation. Sullivan adds that winter weather is possible again on Sunday—this time in the form of freezing rain. He said it won't be quite as bad as the 2009 ice storm, but it could cause power outages and such.
