Strong Winds, Storms Expected in Louisville; JCPS Cautions of Possible Morning Bus Delays

Strong winds and severe storms—and maybe even an isolated tornado—are expected in the Louisville area Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service said.A wind advisory has been issued for Jefferson County and surrounding counties in Kentucky and Indiana, effective from 4 p.m. Tuesday to 4 p.m. Wednesday.Sustained windsof 15 to 25 miles per hour are expected, with gusts as strong as 40 miles per hour.Those winds are thegravest weather threat.The wind and storms are part of a "strong" cold front moving through the region, the weather service said.The best chance for storms, the weather service said, comes Wednesday between midnight and 6 a.m.The storms will range from strong to severe; and may also includehail and flooding;the weather said it also can't "rule out" isolated tornadoes, as well.Meanwhile, the high temperature Wednesday is expected to be 60. Then it's back to winter—the high temperature is forecast to be in the mid-30s on Thursday and upper-20s on Friday.Jefferson County Public Schools asks parents to check media and JCPS Facebook page for updates.JCPS officials say there are a variety of scenarios that could cause bus delays or unsafe conditions for students. The timing of the storm could effect buses that often leave the bus depot at 5 a.m. Officials ask that parents listen to media reports and weather updates prior to sending children to wait for the bus.Find JCPS Facebook page here.
