TARC Announces Changes to a Handful of Routes

TARC announced Thursday changes to several of its bus routes that will start next month. The changes include the extension of the Fourth Street trolley south of Broadway to service the Louisville Free Public Library and schools in the area. The changes go into effect Jan. 26. TARC previously announced a new shuttle between Louisville and Southern Indiana. Here's a rundown from TARC: Route #1-Fourth Street Trolley The Fourth Street Trolley route will be extended south of Broadway to serve the Louisville Free Public Library, Spalding University and Presentation Academy. The bus loop adjacent to Theatre Square will no longer be used for the route. Stop times will also change. From 7 – 11 a.m. on weekdays, trips will depart every 15 minutes; 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., every 12 minutes; and 1-7 p.m., every 18 minutes. Currently, frequencies run every 25 minutes from 7-9 a.m.; 15 minutes from 9-11 a.m.; 10 minutes from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.; and every 15 minutes from 1-7 p.m. The time adjustments are necessary because of the lengthening of the route. Weekend frequencies will remain the same. Route #18-Dixie Highway-Preston-18th Street Three additional weekday trips to and from Valley Village are being added to the schedule. The trips will leave at 8:19 a.m., 3:02 p.m. and 4:04 p.m. In addition, a new westbound trip will leave UPS Worldport at 4:05 p.m., headed to Shively. The current trip scheduled to leave Worldport at 4:10 will be moved to 4:15 p.m. A new eastbound trip leaving Shively at 3:13 p.m., going to Preston Street at Broadway, will also be added to address overcrowding. A few afternoon trips will also be adjusted by 3 or 4 minutes to accommodate the new trips added into the schedule. Route #25 Oak-Westport Crosstown West bound trips leaving Accomack and Westport Road at 6:21 a.m. and 6:56 a.m. will leave instead at 6:19 a.m. and 6:50 a.m. Route #43-Poplar Level Road Two new trips have been added. A new northbound trip leaves Fern Valley Road at Shepherdsville Road at 7:43 a.m. going to 35th & Bank Street in Portland. A new southbound trip will begin on 19th Street at Market Street at 12:15 p.m. going to Fern Valley Road. Both of these trips are designed to help alleviate overcrowding on this route. Route #65x-Southern Indiana Express The new 65x-Southern Indiana Express route will include a park and ride lot at Ivy Tech Community College in Sellersburg, Ind. This location is just off of Interstate 65 Exit 9. There will initially be four morning trips and four afternoon trips during peak hours. This route will serve downtown Louisville and Medical Center stops. Route #93-UPS Shuttle-UL The Route #18 trip eastbound at 5th & Market at 8:35 p.m. to UPS Worldport will continue back to downtown Louisville via Route #93 to provide service to the World Freight Facility stop on Crittenden Drive near Grade Lane. UPS employees who need to travel to the UPS World Freight Facility stop should remain on the bus after it arrives at the Worldport stop. This new trip on Route #93 will leave the UPS Worldport at 9:18 p.m. and the WFF at 9:23 p.m., arriving downtown on Broadway at 4th Street at about 9:45 p.m. This service addition is being provided to help UPS new hires and trainees to get to their work position for shifts beginning at 10 p.m.And, for fun, here's areal-time map of where TARC buses are from Yourmapper.com.
