TARC Route Changes Go Into Effect

Six TARC routes changed Sunday as the public transit agency attempts to improve service and  save an estimated $1.8 million.Among the changes, Routes 25 and 55 will merge. The new route will connect west Louisville, starting at Southwestern Parkway, to east Louisville points including The Summit shopping center and Old Brownsboro Crossing.

Also, Route Number 2 will have more frequent and direct service to Louisville International Airport—but it will no longer travel further south than UPS’s facility there.

The changes were announced in March after a public comment period.

TARC notes that the route changes may not show up on Google’s Trip Planner feature for a few days.

Here's more detail on the changes from TARC: Route #2-Second Street Route #2 will no longer travel south of Louisville International Airport to UPS. That portion of the route will now be served by Route #18-Preston/Dixie Highway. Route #4-Fourth Street Route #4 will no longer serve the Downtown Medical Center, and service will be decreased slightly from Main Street to Central Avenue from 6-9 p.m. on weekdays. Route #18 – Dixie and Preston Highways On weekdays, frequency will decrease slightly from 7-9 p.m. along main portion of route, and bus arrival times will change from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes between 5:30 a.m. and 7:40 p.m. on Dixie Highway south of Park Place Mall. Route will now service UPS Worldport, the UPS Freight Facility and the UPS Edgewood parking lot. Route #25-Oak Street Route #25-Oak Street is merging with Route #55-Westport Road to create a more direct link between west and east Louisville. The new route will originate on Southwestern Parkway in west Louisville and will travel on Virginia (eastbound), Oak, Grinstead, Lexington; Shelbyville and Westport Roads en route to east Louisville. Sites that will continue to be served in east Louisville include Old Brownsboro Crossing; The Summit; Springhurst Towne Center; and Kosair Children’s Hospital on Angie’s Way near Norton Healthcare East in east Louisville. Service will continue to the Nia Neighborhood Jobs Center at 29th and Broadway; Greenwood and Cecil Avenues; 28th and 32nd streets; and Hazel and Garland Avenue. The new route will not travel to downtown Louisville. Route #27-Hill Street Service in the Germantown neighborhood along Burnett and Delor avenues will be re-routed to serve Preston Street. Route #27 will no longer operate on East Burnett St., Shelby St., Delor Ave. and Texas Ave. Route #66X – Mt.
