Teams Bid For Indiana’s First Exit North of East End Bridge

Six Indiana teams have submitted bids  to help develop the first exit north of the East End Bridge.

This is the first contract for Indiana’s portion of the Ohio River Bridges Project.

The $2.6 billion project is being split between the two states. Kentucky is responsible for rebuilding Spaghetti Junction and building a new northbound I-65 bridge. Indiana will build an East End Bridge.

Indiana contractor teams have submitted bids ranging from $3.19 to $4 million to design and build a 3,000 foot extension of Old Salem Road in Utica, which will be the first Indiana exit north of the East End Bridge.

Indiana Transportation Department spokesman Will Wingfield says the agency expects to award the  contract in a couple weeks.

“So that means we’re on schedule to break ground in August,” he said.

A final request for proposals will likely go out for the entire East End Bridge later this month.

Kentucky is preparing to enter a similar process. The commonwealth is considering three teams to design and build its portion of the project.
