Ted Gordon Files School Board Complaint Against Jones Jr.

Update (5:00 pm): Jones has responded to the complaint and writes:

I have reviewed the complaint challenging my eligibility and would like to take this opportunity to state that Main Street Realty is a business venture of which my father, David A. Jones, is a director. My legal name is David A. Jones, Jr., which is how I filed my candidacy, and it is the name that appeared on District 2 ballots.

A local attorney who has sparred with Jefferson County Public Schools for several years filed a lawsuit today against a newly-elected school board member.

David Jones Jr. is a former Humana board chair and a venture capitalist, and attorney Teddy Gordon argues his prior business experience poses a conflict of interest.

The issue was raised by one of Jones’ opponents before the election, but the complaint is filed on behalf of concerned District 2 resident Thomas Armistead.

The complaint alleges five conflicts of interest including Jones’ potential ability to benefit from his stock in Humana, which provides all school staff with health insurance stateside.

It also lists Jones’ business affiliates and argues that his property interests in Oldham County are reason to manipulate the JCPS student assignment plan. (See update)

Jones has maintained he’s reviewed the law and is clear to serve. He has also said he would recuse himself from any potential conflicts of interest that arise while serving on the board.
