Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes unveiled a plan Friday that she says will help make college more affordable and ease student loan debt for over a quarter-million Kentucky students.

The plan continues Grimes' push to strike an economic populist chord with voters. It also comes ahead of a weekend rally in Louisville featuring U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, who has slammed Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell for blocking similar legislation.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Republican Leader Mitch McConnell introduced a bill Wednesday to assist working-class Kentucky parents take care of their children.

The "Working Parents Home Office Act" would give parents a tax deduction for their home office if they have a baby crib.

Currently, federal law does not allow work-at-home parents the opportunity to deduct those costs.

American officials have been debating how the U.S. should respond to the escalation of violence.

Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes wants to debate Republican incumbent Mitch McConnell across Kentucky, and before an audience.

Grimes outlined her criteria for debates—and accepted McConnell's challenge for a possible debate series—in a letter sent Thursday to the Republican Senate leader.

Last month, McConnell issued a challenge to Grimes for a number of "Lincoln-Douglas" style debates, with the first taking place before July 4.

The health care law is a thorny subject for Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes and Republican Mitch McConnell in Kentucky's U.S. Senate race.

For Grimes, the health care law's political unpopularity is a political boulder.

When asked twice by the Associated Press whether she would have voted for the federal overhaul four years ago, Grimes balked.

"I, when we are in the United States Senate, will work to fix the Affordable Care Act," Grimes told the AP.

Observers commented on how Grimes was caught flat-footed at the outset of the general election.
