Republican Mitch McConnell and Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes are both highlighting parts of the Congressional Budget Office report regarding the effects of a minimum wage increase.

Congress' non-partisan budget analyst released estimates on Tuesday showing a federal minimum wage hike of $10.10 would results in higher earnings for 16.5 million Americans.

Democrats points out the report finds such a proposal lifts nearly 1 million Americans out of poverty.

Kentucky Legislative Employee Fired for Appearing in Alison Lundergan Grimes Campaign Ad

A Kentucky legislative employee who appeared in a video supporting Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes has been fired for violating a policy forbidding political activity.

Charles Booker, 29, of Louisville worked at the Legislative Research Commission as an analyst for just over a year.

Last week, he appeared in an online Grimes ad starring his wife, Tanesha, which accused Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell of losing touch with poorer voters.

Alison Lundergan Grimes Web Ad Features Former Democratic Aide

Saying Republican Senator Mitch McConnell has abandoned Kentucky values, Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes released a new web ad Tuesday ripping the GOP leader's record.

The video features west Louisville mother Tanesha Booker, who outlines why she believes McConnell is out of touch. She goes on to say McConnell makes her nervous about her 6-year-old daughter's future.

"We are fighters in the West End," she says. "We're fighting to take care of our families. We're fighting to fulfill our dreams."

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's popularity is lower than President Barack Obama in Kentucky and less than one-third of registered voters across the state hold a favorable view of the Republican lawmaker.

That's according to a new Bluegrass Poll conducted by the Louisville Courier-Journal, WHAS-TV, Lexington Herald Leader and WKYT-TV in Lexington, which was released Thursday evening.

Alison Lundergan Grimes Raises $2.1 Million, Outpacing Fellow Democratic Senate Candidates

Surpassing other top Democratic incumbents and contenders in contributions, Kentucky U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes raised $2.1 million during the last three months of 2013.

Grimes's campaign announced the totals on Friday afternoon, which are down from the $2.5 million she raised in the previous quarter.

The first-term secretary of state has generated over $4.5 million from supporters to date, and has $3.5 million in cash-on-hand.

It’s official. Grimes is running for the senate.

After a ceremonial signing of her candidacy papers attended by Gov. Steve Beshear and four former Kentucky governors, Grimes told reporters that she intends to support a raise in the minimum wage and pay equity for women.

“I believe, especially on behalf of the women all across Kentucky, in closing the pay equity gap. Instead, Sen. McConnell votes against the Lilly Ledbetter Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act. Kentuckians, especially the women of Kentucky, deserve better," she says.
