Kentuckians Will Play An Off-Camera Role at DNC

As Democrats head to Charlotte, North Carolina this week for the Democratic National Convention, many Kentucky delegates will be going for the first time.

Auditor Adam Edelen is one of those first-timers. Edelen says he thinks his party will show why they truly are the best representatives and supporters of the middle class.

Edelen says former President Bill Clinton will likely be the best messenger for that campaign at the convention.

Conway Says He Won't Run in 2014, Edelen 'Highly Unlikely'

Two of Kentucky's highest profile Democrats say they are not interested in taking on U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell in 2014. 

Attorney General Jack Conway, who ran for Senate in 2010 against Republican Rand Paul, tells Kentucky Public Radio he isn't interested in running for the chamber again.

“I cannot forsee a scenario where I would run for the Senate in 2014, because I stated on several occasions when I ran for re-election as attorney general that I would finish out that term as attorney general,” he says.

Edelen Wants to Review and Reform Taxing Districts, But First He Has to Count Them

Kentucky Auditor Adam Edelen is encouraging local officials to help him find out about the state’s hundreds of special taxing districts.

A special taxing district is a quasi-governmental agency—such as a local sewer system or public library—that gets its funds from a separate tax.

No one knows how many such districts there are in the state. And since the spring, Edelen has set out to find and catalog all of the districts, then see if any are abusing public funds.

Edelen Says He'll Keep Campaign Promise to Audit Education Funding

A busy schedule won’t keep Kentucky Auditor Adam Edelen from digging into school board funding.

Edelen is currently planning audits into special taxing districts and Medicaid managed care. His office is also required to do hundreds of audits of local and state government agencies. But Edelen says he’ll keep his campaign pledge to look at school funding. And that could include a review of the state’s public universities, too.

Edelen Says He'll Audit Private Medicaid Operators This Year

 

After months of mounting problems, State Auditor Adam Edelen says he will launch a full investigation intoKentucky’s statewide Medicaid Managed Care system.

Edelen created a Medicaid task force in February after taking a first look at the managed care system. He also gave recommendations to managed care companies, health care providers and the state on how to make the system run better in the future.

But with clashes between private Medicaid companies and healthcare providers ongoiong, Edelen wants to take a stronger look into the system.
