Big East Splits Into Football Divisions

CHICAGO — The Big East has put most of its new teams into the same division.

The Big East will have a West Division, and Temple, located in Philadelphia, will be part of it.

The conference announced its divisional alignment for 2013, when it becomes a 12-team football league.

The East will have Central Florida, South Florida, Connecticut, Louisville, Cincinnati and Rutgers. The West will have Boise State, Houston, Memphis, San Diego State, SMU and Temple.

The Big East championship game will be played at the home field of one of the participating teams.

College Football: U of L 45, Pitt 35; Arkansas 49, UK 7; OSU 52, IU 49

Louisville’s Senorise Perry ran for four touchdowns and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater threw for 304 yards and another score to lead the Cards to a 45-35 victory at Pittsburgh today.

The Panthers led 21-17 at halftime but U of L scored three quick touchdowns in the third quarter to grab the lead for good and win their Big East Conference opener. They also snapped a four-game losing streak to Pitt.

The 16th ranked Cardinals remain undefeated at 6-0 and are bowl-eligible for the third straight season.

Strong Rallies Cards Fans At Kickoff Luncheon

University of Louisville football coach Charlie Strong brought his team to the downtown Marriott Hotel today  to greet a sold-out crowd at the Cards’ annual kickoff luncheon.


There are high expectations for Strong’s third Cardinal team, which is favored by many to win the Big East Conference title.U of L tied for the conference crown last year and earned its second consecutive bowl appearance.


Strong says he wants to bring consistency to a program that has won only seven conference titles going into its 94th season.
