The Environmental Protection Agency’s analysis of soil near Louisville’s former Black Leaf Chemical Plant continues, but the agency still isn’t sure how much of the contamination of nearby land—including some private lawns—can be blamed on the plant. And now, an agency spokesman says some of the preliminary results suggest one of the most prevalent chemicals found might not have come from the facility at all. 

The Environmental Protection Agency has found more signs of toxic chemicals in properties near the former Black Leaf Chemical plant in Louisville’s Park Hill neighborhood. This brings the total number of contaminated properties to at least 69.

Many of the people living near the former Black Leaf Chemical site in Louisville’s Park Hill neighborhood now know their yards are contaminated. But they want to know what the health risks are and whether the federal government will clean up their property. They got few answers at a meeting tonight.

Residents living near the former Black Leaf Chemical site in Louisville’s Park Hill neighborhood may be able to get some answers about contamination near their homes at a community forum tomorrow.

Last month, the Environmental Protection Agency released results of soil testing in the neighborhood. All fifty of the homes adjacent to the former Black Leaf Chemical site were contaminated—some with heavy metals, and some with traces of pesticides.
