How JCPS, Greater Clark Handle Winter Weather Decisions

It happens every time.

Jefferson County Public Schools decides to cancel school because of the weather—or not—and Twitter lights up with comments; some people oppose the decision, some are supportive. 

The issue popped up Friday morning. JCPS is in session; several area school districts aren't.

JCPS Officials: All Students Bused Home by 7 p.m.

Jefferson County Public Schools officials say the last student was delivered home by 6:58 Tuesday night.

The previous two years JCPS has reduced the time buses cleared on the first day of school. Last year, the final bus cleared at 6:38 pm. The year before it was 7:20 pm.

Busing on the first day of school has been closely watched, in large part due to the infamous 2010 school year when the final students weren't delivered home until after 9 p.m. on the first day of class.

Transportation for Jefferson County Public Schools Goes as Expected; a Few Buses Late to Schools

Jefferson County Public Schools officials say transportation for Tuesday morning's first day of school has gone well.

Ben Jackey, a JCPS spokesman, says some buses carrying elementary students were late to school—but that’s expected on the first day.

How Parents Can Get Information on JCPS Buses

Jefferson County Public Schools students return to class on Tuesday and, as always, logistics are getting some attention.

The school district has set up a hotline—485-7433 (RIDE)—for parents and guardians to get information about bus stops and times.  The hotline is open until 4:30 Monday afternoon.

JCPS Claims Bus Manufacturer Sold It 396 Faulty Buses

The Jefferson County Board of Education is claiming that 396 school buses from a Delaware manufacturer are faulty.

The school district filed a lawsuit Friday alleging that it's had numerous problems with engines and other parts to buses from Navistar, which was named as a defendant in the suit. JCPS also alleges that the issues with engines, plus premature rusting and broken doors.

A Navistar spokesman said the company does not comment on pending litigation.
