With the NCAA's Top Seed, Pitino's Cards Set Sights on Next Goal

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino says his team has worked hard to earn its top overall seed in the NCAA tournament, but the Cards are not dwelling on the designation.

Pitino says its one of many steps toward the ultimate goal of winning a national championship.

"When we lost three in a row, we set goals.   We set regular season goals, we set tournament goals, we set seeding goals.  Now you go on to your next goal.  Until it ends, you just keep putting forth goals to your basketball team," Pitino said today.

U of L, UK Begin Play Sunday in Women's NCAA Tournament

The pairings are set for the women’s NCAA basketball tournament.

The Louisville Cards will face Middle Tennessee State Sunday in opening round play at the KFC Yum Center.     U of L is seeded fifth in its region.     If the Cards win they’ll take on either Dayton or St. Johns in the second round.

The Kentucky Wildcats are a number two seed and will take on Navy Sunday in Queens, New York.   If UK advances, the Wildcats will face either Purdue or Liberty in second round play.

Kentucky Wildcats' Fate Unclear After Upset Loss in SEC Tournament

The hopes for the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team to defend their national championship took a hit Friday night when the team lost in their first game of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

The Wildcats lost 64 -48 to the Vanderbilt Commodores and go into Selection Sunday with a 21-11 record.

Freshman forward Willie Cauley-Stein led the Wildcats with seven points and nine rebounds.

The Wildcats were the SEC Tournament’s No. 2 seed. The Commodores were the tournament’s No. 10 seed.

Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Win Automatic Bid to NCAA Tournament

The Commonwealth of Kentucky will have at least two teams in the men's NCAA Tournament.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers defeated the Florida International Golden Panthers 65-63 on Monday night to win the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and an automatic NCAA Tournament berth.

Forward George Fant and guard Jamal Crook led the Hilltoppers each with 17 points.

Louisville Cardinals Ranked No. 4 in AP Poll; Bracketology Projects a No. 1 Seed

As a topsy-turvy men's college basketball season winds down, the Louisville Cardinals have vaulted to No. 4 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.

The Cardinals were ranked No. 8 last week.  The Indiana Hoosier fell from No. 3 to No. 2. Gonzaga remains the nation's top ranked team. Louisville ended the regular season on a seven-game winning streak, last defeating the No. 24-ranked Notre Dame.

WKU Plays Florida International (Richard Pitino's Team) for NCAA Tourney Berth

In a season when Kentucky may not have much March Madness representation, a team from Kentucky will play a team with strong Louisville ties Monday night for an NCAA Tournament berth.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and the Florida International Golden Panthers tipoff at 7 p.m. Eastern in an unlikely Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship game. The winner gets an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

College Basketball: U of L vs Notre Dame; UK hosts Florida; IU at Michigan

In college basketball, the Louisville Cardinals return to action tomorrow for an eagerly awaited rematch with Notre Dame.

The Irish beat the Cardinals in five overtimes last month in South Bend.

This is the Cards regular season finale and, and coach Rick Pitino says it’s probably the most important home game of his 12 seasons in Louisville.

Cards Rise in College Basketball Polls

The Louisville Cards have moved up this week in both the Associated Press and USA Today men’s college basketball polls.

U of L is number eight in the AP survey, up two spots from last week.   The Cards are sixth in the USA Today coaches poll, up from ninth last week.

Gonzaga captured the top spot in both polls.  The Zags are the number one team for the first time in school history.

Indiana dropped to second in both surveys after losing at Minnesota last week.
