College Football: Kentucky Falls to Vandy, 22-6

Vanderbilt beat Kentucky 22-6 Saturday and became bowl-eligible for a third straight season — the first time that’s happened in Commodores' history.

Vanderbilt had been to only four bowls before current coach James Franklin took over.

Bowl eligibility means the Commodores will have a chance to match last year's 9-4 record that was their best since 1915.

Kentucky, now 2-8 on the season, lost its 14th straight SEC game. The Wildcats never scored after Jojo Kemp's 2-yard touchdown run on the opening drive.

The Louisville Cardinals are back in action tomorrow against visiting Houston.

This is U of L’s first Saturday night game in several years.     Coach Charlie Strong has mixed opinions about the 7:00pm kickoff.

"I like those 3:30 (Saturday) games because you’re sitting there all day and you’re so anxious and you want to go play.   But I think just for the crowd it’s better (on) a Saturday night because they have all day to tailgate and get around their friends and have a good time, then they’ll come into the stadium and cheer us on," he said.

The Louisville Cardinals have moved up three spots in this week’s college football coaches poll.

U of L is 13th in the latest USA Today/coaches poll and 19th in the AP poll, up one spot from last week.

The Cards defeated Connecticut last weekend and are in a three-way tie for second place in the American Athletic Conference, along with Cincinnati and their next opponent, Houston.

Coach Charlie Strong says he’s concerned about the costly penalties his team committed at UConn.  The Cards were flagged a dozen times.

College Football: U of L Preps for UConn; UK's Montgomery Suffers Season-Ending Injury

The University of Louisville football team returns to action Friday after a week off.

The Cards (7-1), ranked 16th in the latest coaches’ poll, travel to Connecticut to take on the 0-7 Huskies.

U of L coach Charlie Strong says he likes the way his players have bounced back from their only loss of the season, a 38-35 upset last month at the hands of Central Florida.

The defeat ended any possibility of U of L vying for a national championship, but Strong says the Cards can still position themselves for a top-tier bowl bid.
