U of L Cards Eliminated From College World Series

Parker French and Travis Duke limited Louisville to four hits, and Texas manufactured runs in three straight innings to beat the Cardinals 4-1 in a College World Series elimination game Monday.

The Longhorns (44-20) ended a four-game CWS losing streak dating to 2009 and will play Vanderbilt or UC Irvine in another elimination game Wednesday. Louisville (50-17) went 0-2 in the CWS for the second straight year and is 1-6 in three appearances in Omaha.

Louisville Cardinals Fall to Vanderbilt In College World Series Opener

The Louisville Cardinals baseball team fell behind the Vanderbilt Commodore in the second inning on a wild pitch Saturday, and stayed behind the rest of the game.

Louisville lost to Vanderbilt 5-3 in its first game of the 2014 College World Series in Omaha.

The Cardinals will play the Texas Longhorns on Monday in an elimination game (the College World Series is a double-elimination tournament).

Cardinals ace pitcher Kyle Funkhouser threw the wild pitch in the third and was credited with the loss. Vanderbilt pitcher Carson Fulmer got the win.

The Louisville Cardinals take on Vanderbilt on Saturday in the opening round of the College Baseball World Series.

Here’s what you need to know about the Commodores.

The NCAA has Vanderbilt ranked at 14, with Louisville holding the 9th slot.

The Commodores made the College World Series in 2011, but were eliminated by Florida. They were also ranked 2nd by Baseball America at the end of 2012 season.

For U of L' s Grant Kay, College World Series Also a Homecoming

Cards' first baseman Grant Kay is a native of Omaha, Nebraska, the home of the College World Series.

The Louisville Cardinals are bound for Omaha, Nebraska  to begin play in the college baseball World Series this weekend.           

U of L takes on Vanderbilt Saturday at 8:00pm Eastern time in their opening round game.

This World Series berth is an extra special milestone for Cardinals’ first baseman Grant Kay.   The junior college transfer is an Omaha native.

Cardinals to Face Vanderbilt Saturday in College World Series Opener

The Louisville Cardinals are bound for Omaha and the College World Series for the second straight season.

U of L (50-15) will take on Vanderbilt Saturday night in opening round play and the pursuit of the school’s first national baseball title.            

Coach Dan McDonnell’s team swept Kennesaw State in super regional play over the weekend to clinch the World Series berth, with two come-from-behind victories.

NCAA Baseball: Louisville Cards Headed to College World Series

Nick Solak's two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning propelled the Louisville Cardinals to a 7-4 win over Kennesaw State on Saturday night, sending the Cards to their second straight College World Series and third in school history.

The Cardinals have made it to the College World Series three times since coach Dan McDonnell was hired in 2007. Before his arrival in Louisville, the Cardinals had never won a game in the NCAA tournament.

Update: The Louisville Cardinals won Friday's game against Kennesaw State. The teams play the second game in the best-of-three series at 7 p.m. Saturday in Louisville.  

Earlier: This afternoon, the Louisville Cardinals begin a best-of-three series against Kennesaw State in the NCAA baseball Super Regional. The series winner goes on to the College World Series.

But much like Carmen Sandiego, college baseball fans may wonder: “Where in the world is Kennesaw State?”

Here's the Schedule for the Louisville Cardinals' Next Games in the Baseball Super Regional

The Louisville Cardinals baseball team resumes its bid for a second-straight College World Series appearance on Friday afternoon.

The NCAA has the Cardinals playing Kennesaw State at 6:30 p.m. at UofL's Jim Patterson Stadium. 

Louisville and the Kennesaw State Owls will play a best of three series in the Super Regional. They'll play again at 7 p.m. Saturday. The third game, if needed, would be at 6 p.m. Sunday. 

The series winner goes to the College World Series in Omaha.

NCAA Baseball: Louisville Cards to Face Kennesaw State in Super Regional

The University of Louisville baseball team will play Kennesaw State next weekend for a chance to advance to the College World Series.      

The Cards will host a best-of-three super regional series against the Owls, who defeated Alabama today in their regional final in Florida. 

U of L advanced to the super regional with a 4-1 victory Sunday night over Kentucky.

Cards Coach Dan McDonnell says his upperclassmen have responded well to his call to be strong team leaders.

Indiana University Falls To Oregon State Ending College World Series Run

Indiana University fell to nationally seeded Oregon State Wednesday night in the elimination game, ending the Hoosiers' season and knocking the team out of the College World Series.

Indiana was hitless through five innings as Oregon pitcher Matt Boyd pitched a complete game, four-hit shutout.

The only run of the game came in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly. The final score was 1-0, ending one of the most successful baseball seasons in Indiana baseball history and the team's first appearance in the College World Series.
