Kent Oyler to Become President and CEO of Greater Louisville, Inc.

Greater Louisville, Inc. the Metro Chamber of Commerce, has named a new president and CEO.

Kent Oyler most recently served as managing partner of OPM Services, a financial services and investment firm.  GLI says Oyler has founded or co-founded more than 18 other businesses.       

Oyler replaces Craig Richard, who resigned in February amid the organization’s financial and other struggles.

After two weeks on paid administrative leave, Greater Louisville Inc. President and CEO Craig Richard resigned on Monday.

Richard took the position at the city's chamber of commerce in January 2013 and his resignation is effective immediately.

Greater Louisville Inc.'s CEO Addresses Layoffs in Open Letter

Greater Louisville Inc. is characterizing recent staff reductions as re-focusing on the organization's priorities—"economic development and outstanding member services"—and "not just a cost-cutting measure."

In an open letter, GLI CEO Craig Richard said the cuts—eight staff positions, not including a pair of recent resignations—wouldn't directly harm the organization's teams focused on economic development work for Louisville. He's also instituted a hiring freeze, a travel freeze, a "stringent" expense approval process and other measures.

The administration of Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer doesn't believe that reported staff cuts to Greater Louisville Inc. will harm economic development initiatives for the city.

Greater Louisville Inc. officials confirmed that the organization had endured "organizational change." GLI board chairman Kerry Stemler blamed the situation on the economy and a new agenda for GLI under CEO Craig Richard, who arrived in November 2012.

Houston Official Chosen to Lead Greater Louisville Inc.

An economic development official from Houston has been selected as the new president and CEO of Greater Louisville Inc., the metro’s chamber of commerce.

Craig Richard will lead the business group starting January 7.

He’s been chief economic development officer of the Greater Houston Partnership since 2008, and has held similar positions in Dallas and Arlington, Texas and in Virginia.

Richard succeeds Joe Reagan, who left GLI at the beginning of the year to lead the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association.
