The Clark Memorial Bridge Closes For About Six Weeks Starting July 8

The Clark Memorial Bridge will close at midnight on July 8 to allow for construction on the downtown crossing of the Ohio River Bridges Project.

The bridge, which connects U.S. 31E  between Jeffersonville and downtown Louisville (where the road becomes Second Street), will close for about six weeks as crews work on access ramps for the new downtown bridge on the Indiana side of the Ohio River, said Mindy Peterson, a spokeswoman for the downtown crossing construction project.

Lane Restrictions Planned for Clark Memorial Bridge on Monday

The southbound approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge will be reduced to one-lane beginning Monday morning.

Crews will be dismantling historic limestone pylons and railings, officials from the project said.  The structures will be reincorporated into the bridge once ramp construction is complete.

The work will eventually move into the northbound approach, closing one lane in each direction.

The existing four travel lanes on the Clark Memorial Bridge will not be affected during the work.
