Presidents of UK, UofL Make Funding Case to Kentucky General Assembly

The presidents of the universities of Kentucky and Louisville made their case Thursday for more state dollars before a legislative  budget review committee.

U of L President James Ramsey and UK President Eli Capilouto are slated for a 2.5 percent cut in funding in the first year of Gov. Steve Beshear's proposed budget.

University Bonding Projects on Fast Track to Pass House This Week

FRANKFORT — A bill authorizing bonding projects for most of Kentucky's public universities appears to have ample support to be approved this week in  the state House.

House Bill 7  authorizes more than $300 million in projects, including renovations for dorm rooms, academic buildings and football stadium renovations at the University of Kentucky.

Alcohol Banned At Some UK Tailgating Spots

Some tailgaters won't be allowed to imbibe before the University of Kentucky's football game against South Carolina this weekend.

UK President Eli Capilouto has imposed an alcohol ban for non-reserved tailgating spots near the stadium in Lexington.

The new rule also prohibits DJs and bands, and comes after fights broke out before and after Kentucky's loss to Western Kentucky earlier this month.

Capilouto said in a campus email Thursday that police will bolster their presence in the non-reserved tailgate area along Cooper Drive near Commonwealth Stadium.

UK's Capilouto Gets Good Marks, But No Bonus

University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto has received a mostly positive review after a year on the job but won't receive a performance bonus. That word was made official by UK Board of Trustees Chair Britt Brockman.

"We decided that he deserved a bonus for extraordinary performance. However, based upon the economy and discussions with the president, we both decided, mutually, that we wouldn’t award the bonus. And I think that speaks volumes to his personality and his character as well,"  Brockman said today.

UK President Capilouto Begins Blogging for Huffington Post

University of Kentucky students may notice a familiar face among the blogger profile photos on the Huffington Post. UK president Eli Capilouto has agreed to blog for the highly-trafficked news site about issues involving higher education. University spokesperson Jay Blanton says the site was interested in featuring new perspectives on how universities can adapt to tight budgets.
