Downtown Trolley Hop Rescheduled for This Friday

Last week, snow and ice caused hazardous road conditions, leading the Louisville Downtown Partnership and TARC to cancel the monthly trolley hop. Many galleries along the route that had scheduled exhibit opening receptions closed as well.

Downtown and Nulu gallery districts will have a second chance at a December opening.

The free trolleys will run the Market and Main Street and South Fourth Street routes Friday evening, 5-11 p.m. Here's a map.

Monsters, Faces, and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy: A Selection of Friday Trolley Hop Openings

Credit Patrick Jilbert

Skeletons, skulls, monstrous humanoids and just plain old monsters  – Louisville artist Patrick Jilbert's characters might skulk around society's margins, dodging daggers and coffins on motorcycles and skateboards, but they're also practically humming with whimsical humanity. Jilbert opens a solo show of all-new work, "Avoid Everything," Friday at Why Louisville Two (802 E. Market Street).

Fischer, Tandy Lip-Sync in Trolley Hop Promo

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer doesn't mind making silly online videos to promote local initiatives, as my colleague Erica Peterson highlighted earlier.

The folks at First Friday Trolley Hop got the mayor to make a cameo in their ad too, which also features Councilman David Tandy, D-4, and other notables lip syncing Tim McMorris's "Beautiful Day."

First Friday Five: November

Bob Thompson's "The Entombment"

It’s fine to hit the downtown First Friday Trolley Hop without a plan. Park, wander in and out of galleries, grab a drink or dinner with friends and hop a TARC trolley from one end of downtown to the next and back—you’re sure to find something to catch your eye or ears.

But with so many events and gallery receptions happening at once, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, so every month we take a look at five don’t-miss art events happening during the hop.
