Flyover Film Festival Opens Tonight

The Louisville Film Society's fifth annual Flyover Film Festival opens tonight with two films with local connections and a poetic Western crime film that's been garnering buzz on the festival circuit. The film festival runs through Sunday, with most events happening at the Clifton Center (2117 Payne St.).

"Pilgrim Song" Screens This Weekend in Louisville

The annual Flyover Film Festival is this weekend in Louisville. One of the films on the roster is Pilgrim Song, a film shot in Louisville, which tells the story of an out-of-work musician who decides to walk the entire length of the Sheltowee Trace.

Pilgrim's Song co-writer and director, Martha Stevens, and the film's star, Timothy Morton, spoke with WFPL's Erin Kean on Friday's Byline.

Back with the Band: Drummer-Turned-Filmmaker Produces My Morning Jacket Documentary

Once upon a time, a guy from Louisville named Christopher Guetig played drums for My Morning Jacket. Those were the hard-touring van years, between the release of the critically-acclaimed “At Dawn” and the 2003 breakthrough hit “It Still Moves.”

It’s an old story. Guy leaves band, band makes it big. But this is not an episode of “Behind the Music.” Guetig doesn’t really regret leaving the band for Los Angeles to pursue an acting career in 2002, when they were all still up-and-comers.

21C, Flyover Film Festival to Screen Documentary on Performance Artist Abramovic

When filmmaker Jeff Dupre met legendary performance artist Marina Abramovic at a dinner party a year before her groundbreaking career retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art, he had a vague idea of who she was (the artist who once walked the Great Wall of China) and a healthy dose of skepticism about performance art. By the end of the night, Dupre says he was smitten with the legendary artist known for pushing the boundaries of her body as the subject, object and medium of her work.

Flyover Film Festival Lineup Announced

Thirty-six films will make their Kentucky premieres in the Louisville Film Society’s fourth annualFlyover Film Festival June 7-10. The films range from a concert feature on Louisville rockers My Morning Jacket to a dark comedy by provocative Comedy Central stars Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim.
