The University of Louisville Wings Clinic is consolidating patient care to its downtown Louisville branch. 

Wings is a research and treatment facility for patients with HIV and AIDS, and used to offer patient care one day a week in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Now, University of Louisville spokeswoman Julie Heflin says it makes sense to merge the operations in downtown Louisville.

A Kentucky state lawmaker wants to expand EpiPen use in schools.

EpiPens are used to stop the effects of allergic reactions, and currently, state law only allows students with allergies to carry the devices.

“Some children are not aware a particular allergy and the place that it occurs for the very first time is there in the cafeteria setting or in school," says Representative Addia Wuchner, who will again file a bill that would allow schools to carry EpiPens for general use.

Kentuckians on Medicaid now have the opportunity to change healthcare providers for the first time in months.

Open enrollment for all of the state except Louisville started today. It's the first time since Medicaid was privatized that residents can choose a new private operator to handle their care.

A new government survey once again ranks Kentucky among several states with very high obesity rates.

Overall, more than a third of American adults are obese, but rates vary by location. The latest figures are based on a 2011 telephone survey that asked adults their height and weight. For the first time, households with only cell phones were included.

Veterinarians will be watching for evidence of swine flu during this year's Kentucky State Fair as health officials nationwide have reported a five-fold increase of a new strain of the flu that spreads from pigs to people.

State veterinarians will staff the swine pavilion and visually inspect all swine. Animals that are coughing, sneezing or have labored breathing will be isolated and tested.

Fair Board President Harold Workman says the fair is prepared for the slightest sign of an outbreak and the public will be notified immediately if swine flu is found.

A team of data analysts is recommending Louisville pursue public-private partnerships to help collect and organize data to help residents with asthma.

The team was paid for with a grant from technology company IBM’s Smarter Cities program. Members were in Louisville last month interviewing people and collecting data, and revealed preliminary recommendations today.

Team member Anne Fitzpatrick explained how the aggregation of multiple sources of data could help those who suffer from asthma.
