Boil Water Advisory Lifted for Highlands Area

The boil water advisory for parts of the Highlands following a water main break has been lifted.

The Louisville Water Co. adds:

Please note, if your refrigerator has an automatic ice machine, allow the receptacle to fill twice and discard the ice. If you have a chilled water line on your refrigerator door, allow it to run for approximately one minute before using the water.

The water company said quality tests confirmed that the water from taps is safe to drink.

The Highlander Newspaper Is Closing

Another Louisville print publication is closing.

The Highlander, a free monthly paper available in neighborhoods in and around its namesake, will cease publication this week.

In a letter, editor and publisher Mary Jean Kirtley writes "we can no longer continue due to a lack of ad revenue and other resources. The January issue (now out) is our last."

The Louisville Zombie Attack is lurching around the corner. 

Suppose you are interested in dressing up as the undead and walking Thursday night in the Zombie Attack—or you are interested in watching, or you at least enjoy scary movies.

Longtime Family-Run Burger's Market Closing

Decades of Burger family tradition ends in a few months.

“For 40 years, one of us has opened the store, one of us has closed it,” Tony Burger says. 

He's talking about Burger's Market,the small, family-run grocery that stands across from the Louisville Collegiate School. It's something of a landmark for commuters on Grinstead Drive.

Burger's Market closes in March.

The Burger family has run the store since 1958, when the father of the current owners Tony and Jeff Burger  purchased it. Tony is now 65 and Jeff is 64, and Tony says it's time to retire.
