Louisville's 33-Percent Traffic Death Spike, By the Numbers

At the end of 2013, Kentucky's traffic fatality rate was the lowest since 1947. 

But Louisville—and the rest of Jefferson County—was an outlier. As I reported last week, Jefferson County traffic deaths spiked in 2013. 

In 2012, 66 people died in Jefferson County traffic accidents.

In 2013, the final number of Jefferson County traffic deaths is 88—a 33-percent spike.

Texting While Driving Now Costs 3 Points Against a Kentucky Driver's License

Texting while driving can now cost Kentucky drivers three points against their license.

In August, Gov. Steve Beshear announced that he’d enacted emergency regulations adding the new penalty.

The regulations went into effect in November after a legislative committee gave no objections, Transportation Cabinet spokesman Ryan Watts says.

Texting While Driving Will Cost 3 Points Against Kentucky Driver's License

Kentucky drivers will soon be assessed three "penalty points" against their licenses each time they're convicted of texting while driving.

The new penalty will be enacted through administrative regulations ordered by Gov. Steve Beshear, who announced the change in Louisville on Wednesday morning.
