A Year Later, Louisville Woman's Murder Remains Unsolved, Unexplained

It took one, very long sleepless night to complete that crystal-encrusted costume.

“Jesus,” Terrance Williams says. “We stayed up all night putting diamonds on that black shirt.”

Williams’ best friend, Cheryl Williamson, was competing in the 2011 Miss Omega Pageant at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, and she demanded perfection before she’d take the stage.

“I always go to that video and watch it,” he says. “We all do, actually. It’s pretty funny.”

The data is preliminary, but overall crime has declined slightly (about .5 percent) in Louisville Metro Police's jurisdiction this year through November, compared to the same time period last year, Chief Steve Conrad said.

Map: Where Homicides Happened in Louisville to Date

Louisville has seen fewer homicides three-quarters of the way through 2013 than it had during the same time period in 2012.

So far, 42 people have been the victims of homicide in Louisville Metro Police's jurisdiction. Last year, the number was 50 people.

Where Homicides Happened in Louisville So Far in 2013

Louisville Metro had fewer violent and property crimes committed in 2012 compared to 2011, but Police Chief Steve Conrad is still concerned.

One reason is an increase in homicides and aggravated assaults despite decreases in the other crime categories. Conrad told me earlier this week that trends from 2012 appear to be holding in 2013 through at least July.
