FRANKFORT—During their campaign's first press conference as a  gubernatorial ticket, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway and his running mate, House Majority Caucus Chair Sannie Overly on Tuesday emphasized a focus on early childhood education.

That is,  they largely reiterated the content of a press release they sent out to media earlier in the day.

Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway officially announced in a video press release on Tuesday his candidacy for governor, adding that he has tapped House Democratic Caucus Chair Rep. Sannie Overly, D-Paris, as his running mate.

“Now is the time to roll up our sleeves and continue to move Kentucky forward, and we begin doing that by building a great team.The strength of this gubernatorial ticket is bolstered by Rep. Sannie Overly’s record of accomplishments.”

Days after the Kentucky Derby another horse race is on the mind of Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway, according to multiple sources.

Conway is expected to announce his bid for governor this week, possibly as early as Tuesday.

Those familiar with the decision have leaked that he has plucked state Rep. Sannie Overly, D-Paris, as a running mate.

Human Trafficking Bill Passes Senate Committee, Poised to Become Kentucky Law

A bill that would strengthen Kentucky's human trafficking laws has passed a Senate committee and appears ready to finally become law.

House Bill 3 is sponsored by state Rep. Sannie Overly, a Paris Democrat and the House majority caucus chair.. It's consider so-called "safe harbor legislation," which would require treatment for victims of human trafficking instead of legal ramifications, such as prostitution or immigration charges.

Bill Would Allow Public-Private Partnerships For Big Construction Projects

State Rep. Sannie Overly has filed a bill that will allow the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to explore public-private partnerships to help construction projects with big price tags.

The bill doesn't specifically name any projects, but Kentucky currently has multiple instances where the bill could help work start, namely the Brent Spence Bridge in Northern Kentucky and Interstate 69 in western Kentucky.

Overly, a Paris Democrat, said the goal is to help the state have one more avenue to help fund its infrastructure projects.

Sannie Overly First Woman Elected to Kentucky House Leadership

State Rep. Sannie Overly will be the first woman in history elected to a leadership position in the Kentucky House of Representatives.

Overly, of Paris, on Tuesday was elected House Democratic Caucus Chair in private leadership elections today. Overly beat state Rep. Bob Damron, of Nicholasville, for the position; all other House Democratic leaders retained their posts.
