WFPL to Carry Special Coverage Monday of the Inauguration Ceremony

WFPL will carry NPR's special live coverage Monday as President Obama is sworn in to his second term in office in Washington, D.C.

Special coverage begins at 10 a.m. with Steve Inskeep and Audie Cornish hosting from the west front of the U.S. Capitol, site of the inauguration ceremony. NPR's White House correspondents, Ari Shapiro and Scott Horsley, will join them.

Pence Signs 15 Executive Orders During First Day In Office

New Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is telling several state agencies they must consider the effect any new regulations would have on families.

That was among 15 executive orders that Pence signed in the governor's office a few hours after his inauguration.

Pence proposed the family impact statements during his campaign. He says he wants to ensure that "intact married families" aren't hurt by state rules. He says the reviews aren't meant to disadvantage single-parent or other families.

In Inaugural Address, Pence Urges Hoosiers to "Tell Indiana's Story"

Republican Mike Pence became Indiana’s 50th governor today, taking the oath of office this on a cold morning outside the Statehouse.

With the temperature in Indianapolis around 20 degrees, the ceremony, and Pence’s inaugural address, were relatively short.

Pence called on Hoosiers to take steps to improve themselves and to better the state.

Pence To Be Sworn In As Indiana's 50th Governor Today

Indiana’s new governor will be sworn in today outside the Statehouse in Indianapolis.

Republican Mike Pence will become Indiana’s 50th governor during an 11:00am ceremony, taking the oath of office along with Lt. Gov.-elect Sue Ellspermann and Attorney General Greg Zoeller.

Pence spokeswoman Christy Denault says the incoming Republican governor hasn’t revealed much about his inauguration speech.

"He promises that it will be short out of respect for cold weather, and that it will be aspirational," she said.

Registration Underway for Pence Inaugural Events

Online registration has begun for events surrounding next month’s inauguration of Indiana Governor-elect Mike Pence.

Most of the events in Indianapolis are free and open to the public but registration is required.

They include a family-oriented event on Saturday, January 12 at the Dallara IndyCar Factory, a worship service on Sunday, January 13 at the Indiana Convention Center, and the inauguration itself on Monday, January 14 at the Indiana Statehouse.

On Tuesday, Bloomberg reported that Barzun and American Vogue Editor Anna Wintour were under consideration to be the next U.S. ambassador to Great Britain.

Pence Inauguration Set For January 14

The inauguration ceremony for Indiana Gov.-elect Mike Pence will be held Jan. 14 at the Statehouse.

His staff announced Monday that Pence will be sworn into office during a ceremony open to the public but that registrations will be required. Those registrations will be accepted starting in mid-December.
