Pence To Be Sworn In As Indiana's 50th Governor Today

Indiana’s new governor will be sworn in today outside the Statehouse in Indianapolis.

Republican Mike Pence will become Indiana’s 50th governor during an 11:00am ceremony, taking the oath of office along with Lt. Gov.-elect Sue Ellspermann and Attorney General Greg Zoeller.

Pence spokeswoman Christy Denault says the incoming Republican governor hasn’t revealed much about his inauguration speech.

"He promises that it will be short out of respect for cold weather, and that it will be aspirational," she said.

2013 Indiana General Assembly Begins With Calls for Focus on Education, Economy

State lawmakers returned to Indianapolis today for the start of their four-month session, which will include the drafting of a new state budget and consideration of Republican Gov.-elect Mike Pence’s proposed personal income tax cut.

With a new GOP supermajority in the House, Democrats don’t have the numbers in either chamber to hold up controversial legislation like they did last year during the bitter fight over a right-to-work bill.

But new House Democratic Leader Scott Pelath says that doesn’t mean his caucus will be silent.

Indiana Lawmakers Digging In For 2013 Session

Indiana's General Assembly is reconvening for a 2013 session certain to be jammed with debate over the budget, taxes and a raft of divisive social issues.

Lawmakers return to Indianapolis today for the start of their four-month session that will also feature dozens of new faces, including Gov.-elect Mike Pence and his new administration. Pence takes office Jan. 14.

Registration Underway for Pence Inaugural Events

Online registration has begun for events surrounding next month’s inauguration of Indiana Governor-elect Mike Pence.

Most of the events in Indianapolis are free and open to the public but registration is required.

They include a family-oriented event on Saturday, January 12 at the Dallara IndyCar Factory, a worship service on Sunday, January 13 at the Indiana Convention Center, and the inauguration itself on Monday, January 14 at the Indiana Statehouse.

Gov.-elect Pence Announces More Appointments

Indiana Governor-elect Mike Pence has announced five more appointments to leadership posts in his new administration.

Former Hamilton County Sheriff Doug Carter will be the new Superintendent of Indiana State Police. Carter was a state trooper for 18 years before retiring in 2002 and served two terms as sheriff. He’ll replace current ISP Superintendent Paul Whitesell.

Rob Carter will continue as Director of the Department of Natural Resources, a post he has held in the Daniels administration since 2006.

Indiana Lt. Gov. Skillman Returning to Private Sector

Indiana Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman is heading south after she leaves the Statehouse to lead an economic development group.

Skillman announced Tuesday she will become president and CEO of Radius Indiana on Feb. 1. Radius is a group of business and government leaders representing eight southern Indiana counties.

Pence Names Three to Cabinet Posts

Indiana Governor-elect Mike Pence has announced three cabinet appointments.

All three appointees work in the current administration of Governor Mitch Daniels.

Pence announced today that Ron Wynkoop will continue as commissioner of the Department of Administration and Mike Alley will stay on as commissioner of the Department of Revenue.

Anita Samuel, who has been serving as Daniels’ general counsel, will become director of the Department of Personnel in the Pence Administration.

Pence will be publicly sworn in as Indiana’s next governor on January 14.
