Flu Shot Appointments Now Available in Louisville


Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness is now offering flu shots at several locations throughout the city.

Health officials are recommending that everyone older than six months be immunized in preparation for the upcoming flu season, which is expected to last from mid-October through the end of February.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports there will be adequate supplies. But Dave Langdon, Metro Department of Health and Wellness spokesperson, encourages people to avoid the dangerous risk of flu and get their shots as soon as possible.

Flu Still Widespread in Kentucky; Indiana Death Toll is 15

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Kentucky has spent five weeks at its highest level of flu, which is far more than last year. That means more than half of the state’s regions have reported an increased number of cases. Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services spokesperson Gwenda Bond says although this year’s outbreak is more severe than previous years, it is not too out of the ordinary.

Kentucky Flu Activity 'Widespread,' Vaccinations Urged

The Kentucky Department for Public Health says flu activity across the commonwealth has increased to widespread, meaning there are outbreaks of the illness in at least half of the state’s regions.

State Epidemiologist Dr. Craig Humbaugh says the flu usually peaks from January through March.

"In fact, last year’s flu season was relatively late in coming, and this year’s flu season is starting early," he said.
