Ray Wallace, IU Southeast's Next Chancellor, Wants People to Finish Degrees and More Outreach

IU Southeast next chancellor said one place of emphasis will be finding people in Southern Indiana and Louisville who've started but never finished degree programs.

The demographic research shows that the region has plenty of people who fit that description, said Ray Wallace, who this week was appointed IU Southeast's next leader.

So that's one area he'll want to focus.

“We need to do a better job, I think, in terms of working with people to complete their degrees," Wallace said.

Finalists to be IU Southeast Chancellor to Appear on Campus

The four finalists to be the next chancellor of Indiana Southeast will chat in the next several days with students, faculty, staff and community members.

Following the finalists' visits to the New  Albany campus, the search committee will make recommendations to top Indiana University system administrators as to who should replace Sandra Patterson-Randles, who retired last year as IU Southeast's chancellor.

Innovative Oakland A's GM Billy Beane to Speak at IU Southeast

Billy Beane, the innovative Oakland Athletics general manager and one of the few people with the distinction of being played by Brad Pitt on film, will speak  on Feb. 12 at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, the university said.

Beane is best for his usage of statistics to guide decision-making in baseball—particularly in ways that find and use players whose skills are undervalued, boosting teams in small market cities. His approach was featured in Michael Lewis' 2003 bestselling book Moneyball, which was adapted into film in 2011.
