Fans Flock to Tinseltown for Early Showing of 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire'

Fans of the "Hunter Games" franchise—and/or the film's star, Louisville native Jennifer Lawrence—lined up inside the Tinseltown cineplex in the East End on Wednesday night to view an early showing (for charity) of the latest installment in the movie series.

"Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is out officially on Friday, though showing are set to begin in Louisville Thursday evening. The film stars Lawrence as an unwilling warrior living in a dystopian future. The first installment released last year grossed $408 million domestically.

Jennifer Lawrence Foundation to Host Advance Screening of 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire'

A new Louisville foundation set up in the name of Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence will next month host an advance fundraiser screening of her next film "Hunger Games: Catching Fire."

Tickets for the Nov. 20 fundraiser screening at Tinseltown range from $125 to $1,000. The film opens nationally on Nov. 22. More information here.

Vogue has released (at least online) its September issue cover story featuring Louisville native Jennifer Lawrence. The September issue is the magazine's Big Deal issue of the year, so it's an especially high honor being bestowed on the former Kammerer Middle School student.

Jennifer Lawrence is Hollywood's Second Highest-Paid Actress, Forbes Says

Louisville native Jennifer Lawrence ranks No. 2 on Forbes' list of Hollywood's highest-paid actresses.

She's topped only by Angelina Jolie, who earned $33 million between July 2012 and June 2013.

Lawrence's income was reported as $26 million.

After the huge success of The Hunger Games, both movie and book, it seems like a foregone conclusion that there's enormous pent-up demand for the next chapter of the film adaptation, Catching Fire. This is the book where Katniss' story becomes much more explicitly political, and her status as a revolutionary and a warrior is more fully realized.
