Looking for Lilith

Looking for Lilith Theatre Company opens an all-female production of William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” this week, setting the merry war-between-the-sexes romantic comedy in the days following the end of World War I.

The production opens Thursday and runs through October 13 in the new downstairs mainstage space at the Alley Theater in Butchertown’s The Pointe (1205 E. Washington St.).

Dysfunction in the English royal family plays out against a backdrop of treason and civil war in “The Lion in Winter." Actor's Choice theater company opens James Goldman’s award-winning historical drama this week. 

The year is 1183, and King Henry II has called a Christmas court. He’s allowed his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine, out of prison for the occasion. He needs to name an heir to secure an alliance with France. Will it be Richard (later known as the Lionheart), treacherous Geoffrey or Henry's favorite, John?

One-Woman Show Plays at Austen Festival

This weekend's Jane Austen Festival in Louisville will feature a one-woman play about  Fanny Kemble, a legendary English actress and author who wrote in the style of Jane Austen.

“Shame the Devil: an Audience with Fanny Kemble,  written by Anne Ludlum, is based on Kemble’s own journals.  Kemble never met Jane Austen—she was only six when the novelist died. But Austenites celebrating the Regency Era this weekend will hear a deep kinship between the two women.
