Fund for the Arts Crowdfunding Platform Raises $1 Million

The Fund for the Arts’ Power2Give online fundraising platform has raised more than $1 million so far for arts and culture projects produced by regional nonprofit organizations. 

In crowdfunding, individuals give online directly to a project, like helping an organization renovate a rehearsal or studio space. Kickstarter and Indiegogo are two popular crowdfunding platforms, but Power2Give focuses on arts and cultural nonprofits within a specific region.

Kentucky Arts Council Taking Applications for Artist Directory, Fellowships

The Kentucky Arts Council is accepting applications until March 15 from artists for their Performing Arts Directory and for individual visual artist fellowships.

Applications are open for Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowships and Emerging Artist Awards this year for visual, craft and media artists (literary and performing artists apply in even-numbered years).

Arts Council Announces New Grants for Underserved Groups

The Kentucky Arts Council is launching a new grant program to fund arts experiences for underserved populations. The first fiscal year of funding for the new Arts Access Assistance program will go to programs and organizations offering “creative aging and lifelong learning” arts programs for senior citizens across the state. 

"There’s great evidence to support the fact that arts are beneficial, both for life and health of older Americans," says program director Sarah Schmitt.

Arts Council Will Match Power2Give Funds Again

The Kentucky Arts Council announced today that they will continue to match funds raised by arts organizations through the online project crowdfunding platform Power2Give. The council will match funds, up to $10,000 per project, in fiscal year 2013.

Courier-Journal Music Writer Wins Governor's Award

The Kentucky Arts Council has announced the recipients of this year’s Governor’s Awards in the Arts. Long-time Courier-Journal music writer Jeffrey Lee Puckett is among the honorees.

The Governor’s Awards are the commonwealth’s highest honor in the arts. The annual awards recognize individuals and businesses who have made a significant impact on the Kentucky arts landscape. They’re awarded in nine categories, including media.

Kentucky Poet Laureate Nominations Open

The Kentucky Arts Council will accept nominations for the state's poet laureate position for the 2013-15 term. The position is not limited to the Commonwealth's poets—accomplished fiction writers, playwrights and nonfiction and  living in Kentucky with strong ties to the state also qualify.  

Nomination forms and program guidelines are available on the Kentucky Arts Council website. The deadline for nominations is September 30.

Arts Council Announces Arts Partnership Grants

The Kentucky Arts Council has awarded more than $600,000 to Jefferson County arts groups for the next fiscal year. The Kentucky Arts Partnership grant is an annual statewide program that funds operational support for nonprofit arts groups. This year, the arts council awarded more than $1.7 million to 104 groups across Kentucky that provide year-round arts programs for the public.
