Louisville Councilman David James' Jobs-Conflict Case Punted Back to Attorney General's Office

Louisville Metro Councilman David James, D-6,

Commonwealth's Attorney Thomas Wine is returning a controversial case involving Louisville Metro Councilman David James' potential jobs conflict to the Kentucky attorney general's office.

Earlier this month, Attorney General Jack Conway sent a letter to Wine saying "ouster authority for county offices" fell within the Louisville prosecutor's jurisdiction.

The question of whether Louisville Metro Councilman David James, D-6, is holding incompatible jobs is being been referred to the Commonwealth Attorney's office.

In a controversial memorandum, Jefferson County Attorney Mike O'Connell argued James has taken conflicting oaths as a council member, where he was first elected in 2010, and as a major with the University of Louisville police department.

Efforts Continue to Address Propane Shortage

Government officials and suppliers say they’re continuing efforts to help ease the region’s propane shortage.

Demand and prices for the heating gas have soared as temperatures have plummeted.   Supplies were already affected by a record harvest that required farmers to dry large amounts of grain.

Midwestern states are the hardest hit by the shortage, but many Kentucky homes have been in short supply as well.

U.S. Senator Rand Paul Shoots Down Kentucky Attorney General Opinion on Hemp Production

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., disagrees with Attorney General Jack Conway's opinion that industrial hemp farming remains illegal in Kentucky.

Earlier this year state lawmakers passed a bill allowing farmers to grow the crop if the federal government lifts a longstanding ban.

Kentucky Attorney General to be Dropped From Parenting Columnist's Lawsuit

Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway says his office and attorneys for nationally syndicated parenting columnist John Rosemond have agreed that Conway should be dismissed from a lawsuit filed by Rosemond.

Rosemond filed a federal lawsuit this month saying his first amendment right to free speech was violated when he received a cease and desist letter from Kentucky authorities because he isn't licensed to practice in the commonwealth.

Kentucky AG Ask U.S. Supreme Court to Consider School Miranda Rights Case

The Kentucky attorney general's office has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to consider a case involving whether students must be informed of their rights before being questioned at school.

Attorney General Jack Conway asked the justices Tuesday to overturn a Kentucky Supreme Court decision from April. In that case from Nelson County, the state justices concluded that students must be informed of their legal rights — including the right to remain silent — before being questioned by school administrators working with police or school resource officers.

Two Kentucky elected leaders are joining their peers in asking a national clothing retailer to stop selling questionable pint and shot glasses.

Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway and U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers are asking retailer Urban Outfitters to stop selling an array of pint glasses, shot glasses and flasks that are made to look like prescription pill bottles.

The two men have consistently fought for laws to reduce Kentucky's prescription pill epidemic on both the state and federal levels.

BuzzFeed Ranks Jack Conway Second 'Hottest' Attorney General

Kentucky Democrat Jack Conway is the second hottest attorney general in the country, according to BuzzFeed. 

How did this arbitrary and meaningless satirical list even come up, one may ask.

Well The Washington Post reported on Thursday President Obama diverged from his prepared remarks at fundraiser to praise California Attorney General Kamala Harris.

The president said: "She’s brilliant and she’s dedicated, she’s tough. She also happens to be, by far, the best looking attorney general."

"It’s true! C’mon," Obama added.

Not so, says the online news outlet that is known for viral cat videos as much as political reporting.

Conway Alleges Mortgage Swapping Company Violated State Law

Claiming they committed fraud, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway has filed a suit against a mortgage company.

Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems, or MERS, provides a marketplace for banks to trade mortgages and mortgage-backed securities.

Conway says it was set up by banks to avoid the fees that must be paid when mortgages are sold and to hide the true owners of those mortgages.
