Since the campaign for control of the Kentucky House started, Democrats and supportive outside groups have used outgoing Senate President David Williams as an attack on GOP candidates.

For weeks, the outside group Kentucky Family Values has sent out political mail attempting to link GOP incumbents and challengers as "votes for Williams" in Frankfort. 

But now that Williams is set to become a judge, Republicans say the attacks aren't relevant.

A group of GOP House candidates are encouraging one Republican leader to take a bold stance on a pension issue.

Republicans Chris Hightower, Jason Crockett, Lynn Bechler, Bryan Lutz and Matt Lockett are all in competitive races for the state House this election cycle.

The candidates want Senate President David Williams to retire, rather than resign, if he is selected and accepts a judgeship in his home county.

As the dust settles on this year’s vice presidential debate at Centre College, local officials are saying the school is ready for the next step. 

Centre College has now held two vice presidential debates: this year’s and 2000's.

Those debates will be historically known for two different styles between candidates—Vice President Dick Cheney and Senator Joe Lieberman were cordial in 2000, while Vice President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan were much feistier this year. But behind the scenes, both debates are known for how smoothly everything ran.

Kentucky Senate President David Williams, R-Burkesville, would consider a judicial appointment if Governor Steve Beshear offered the position, a spokesperson confirmed.

Rumors have been swirling in Frankfort that Beshear is planning to offer his bitter rival Williams, who is a trial lawyer, the open circuit court seat in his southern Kentucky district. The seat was left vacant due to the death of Judge Eddie Lovelace last month.

"If there is an appointment offer, Sen. Williams will consider it," says Senate GOP spokeswoman Lourdes Báez-Schrader.
