Former Kentucky Ag Commissioner Richie Farmer Sentenced to 27 Months

Former Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner and University of Kentucky basketball star Richie Farmer has been sentenced to 27 months in prison.

Farmer previously plead guilty to corruption charges for misappropriating government resources while in office. The sentence also requires Farmer to pay over $120,000 in restitution for abusing his power.

Farmer’s attorney Guthrie True says he's disappointed in the ruling. He'd sought to have Farmer serve only 21 months.

Child Care Agency Board Rejects Proposal to Hire Gays

The board that runs Kentucky's largest private child care agency has voted against a proposed policy change that would allow for the hiring of gay employees.

A statement from Sunrise Children's Services on Friday says the board of directors voted to maintain its current hiring practice, which informs job applicants that the agency does not hire gays.

Capitol Memorial To Be Held Wednesday For Mike Haydon

State officials are remembering Mike Haydon, Governor Steve Beshear's chief of staff, who died suddenly Sunday.

A memorial service for Haydon will be held tomorrow at the state Capitol.

Beshear said in a statement he and his wife are devastated by Haydon’s passing.    The 62 year old Haydon had served in state and local government for over three decades in various capacities and earned the respect of colleagues on both sides of the aisle.
