2 Kentucky Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals' Russ Smith Chosen in NBA Draft

Two Kentucky Wildcats, a Louisville Cardinals and an Indiana Hoosier were among the area college basketball players chosen Thursday night in the NBA Draft.

The Wildcats' Julius Randle was chosen seventh by the Los Angeles Lakers. His teammate James Young was chosen by the Boston Celtics with the 17th pick.

The AP reports:

Randle was the SEC's freshman of the year while helping the Wildcats to the NCAA championship game. He had 24 games with at least 10 points and 10 rebounds, the second-most by a freshman in Division I history.

NCAA Baseball: Cards Beat Cats, Advance to Super Regionals

For the second straight year, the Louisville Cardinals are headed for the super regionals of the NCAA baseball championship.

U of L beat Kentucky 4-1 in a weather-delayed regional game Sunday night at Jim Patterson Stadium to advance to the next round. U of L is trying for its second consecutive College World Series appearance.

The Cards will host either Kennesaw State or Alabama next weekend in the best-of-three super regional round.

In the Bloomington regional, Indiana and Stanford will square off this afternoon in their final matchup.

NCAA Baseball: Louisville Cards Win Regional Opener

In college baseball, the Louisville Cards defeated Kent State 5-0 Friday night in opening round play of the NCAA championship at U of L’s Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Cards will face Kansas today at 5:00pm in the double-elimination regional. The Jayhawks defeated Kentucky 10-6 in a weather-delayed opening game. UK and Kent State will face off in the elimination game at noon.

In Bloomington, the Indiana Hoosiers defeated Youngstown State and will take on Stanford today

U of L, UK and IU Open Play Friday in NCAA Baseball Championship

The Louisville Cardinals,  Kentucky Wildcats and Indiana Hoosiers all beging play Friday  in the opening round of the NCAA baseball championship.        

The Cardinals and Wildcats are are playing in the Louisville regional at U of L’s Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Wildcats take on Kansas at 2:00pm, while the top-seeded Cardinals face Kent State at 6:00pm.

UK's Harrison Twins Returning for Sophomore Season

Kentucky’s twin freshman guards will return for a second season to a stocked Wildcats squad coming off an NCAA championship game appearance.

Andrew and Aaron Harrison had both been mentioned as possible NBA first-round draft picks after leading Kentucky's  march through the NCAA tournament.    

Aaron Harrison's clutch 3-pointers that beat Michigan and Wisconsin and put the Wildcats in the final were set up on feeds from Andrew, the point guard.

Alex Poythress, Dakari Johnson Returning to UK Wildcats Next Season

Sophomore forward Alex Poythress and freshman center Dakari Johnson have announced they will return for another season of college basketball with the Kentucky Wildcats.

Poythress and Johnson were key contributors to the Wildcats' NCAA title-game run.    

His postseason performances fueled speculation that he might enter the NBA draft,  but Poythress said in a release that he wanted "to make sure that I'm NBA-ready before I make that jump."

UK's Julius Randle to Enter NBA Draft

University of Kentucky basketball player Julius Randle is leaving the Wildcats after one season to enter the NBA draft.

The 6-foot-9 forward is widely expected to be among the top five picks in the June 26 draft.

Randle led UK in scoring and rebounding during the Wildcats NCAA Tournament run, which ended with a loss to Connecticut in the title game.

UK's Julius Randle to Announce NBA Draft Decision Tuesday

The University of Kentucky basketball program will hold a news conference tomorrow afternoon  with freshman forward Julius Randle, who will announce whether he is entering the NBA draft or returning for another season.         

Sunday is the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft, and the 6-foot-9 Randle has been projected as a lottery pick if he turns pro.    He led the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding during their NCAA title quest.

Calipari on NBA Rumors: 'I Have the Best Job in the Country'

An executive with the Los Angeles Lakers is denying rumors that University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari will become the next head coach of the struggling NBA team.    

The rumors were floated by former UK star Rex Chapman on Twitter shortly before the Wildcats’ loss to Connecticut in Monday night’s NCAA championship game.  Chapman called Calipari’s departure a “done deal.”

UK's Aaron Harrison 'Not Afraid to Miss' Game-Winning Shots

The Kentucky Wildcats take on the Connecticut Huskies tonight for the men’s NCAA basketball championship.         

UK got by Wisconsin 74 to 73 Saturday night after Aaron Harrison put the Wildcats ahead with a long three-pointer with just under six seconds remaining.    It was Harrison’s third straight game-winning shot.

"The biggest thing is, he’s not afraid to miss.  He’s comfortable in his own skin, he knows how hard he’s worked," said Kentucky coach John Calipari.
