Kentucky Wildcats Lose to UConn in Elite Eight


The Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team was lost their bid Monday for their first Final Four appearance.

The No. 2 seed Wildcats lost 83-53 to the UConn Huskies in Bridgeport, Conn., ending UK’s most successful season in history with a 30-6 record and a second-place regular season finish in the Southeastern Conference.

It’s the second straight year UK lost to UConn in the Elite Eight.

A'dia Mathies led the Wildcats with 14 points.

UConn will play the winner of Tuesday’s game between Duke and Notre Dame.

UK Reaches Elite Eight in Women's NCAA Tournament

For the third time in four years, the Kentucky Wildcats have advanced to the Elite Eight round of the women’s NCAA basketball tournament.

Second-seeded UK defeated number six seed Delaware 69-62 today in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

The Wildcats will face top-seeded Connecticut Monday for a trip to the Final Four.

Jennifer O’Neill led Kentucky with 19 points;  A’dia Mathies added 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

U of L, UK Reach Women's NCAA Sweet Sixteen Round

The Louisville Cards and Kentucky Wildcats are both headed to the third round of the women’s NCAA basketball tournament.

Second-seeded UK advanced to the Sweet Sixteen with a 84-70 victory tonight over Dayton.     The Wildcats will face Delaware, a number six seed, Saturday in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Fifth-seeded U of L made it to the third round with a 76-63 win over Purdue at the KFC Yum Center.

Cards, Cats Return to Action in Women's NCAA Tournament

The University of Louisville and University of Kentucky women’s basketball teams resume play tonight in the NCAA tournament.

The Cardinals advanced to the second round with a victory over MiddleTennessee State Sunday.  Fifth-seeded U of L takes number four Purdue at 7:00pm at the KFC Yum Center.

The second-seeded Wildcats meet number seven seed Dayton tonight in Queens, New York  at 7:00.     UK won its opening round game Sunday over Navy.

Minnesota Fires Tubby Smith

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota has fired Tubby Smith one day after the Golden Gophers lost to Florida in the NCAA tournament.

Athletics director Norwood Teague announced the decision Monday and said it was time for a "fresh set of eyes" on the program.

Smith was 124-81 (.610) in six seasons at Minnesota. He arrived in 2007 from Kentucky, immediately ramping up expectations for a team that was buried by an academic cheating scandal.

U of L, UK Advance in Women's NCAA; U of L Men to Face Oregon Friday; IU vs Syracuse Thursday

The Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky Wildcats are both off to a winning start in the women’s NCAA basketball tournament.

The fifth-seeded Cardinals defeated Middle Tennessee State 74-49 Sunday, while number two seed Kentucky beat Navy 61-41.

U of L will face Purdue Tuesday in second round play at the KFC Yum Center.   Kentucky takes on Dayton Tuesday in Queens, New York.   Both games tip off at 7:00pm.

In the men’s tournament, the Louisville Cardinals return to action this week.

U of L faces Oregon Friday in Indianapolis.
