College Basketball: Louisville Cardinals Roll Over Rutgers, 92-31

The Louisville Cards have easily advanced to the semifinals of the men’s American Athletic  Conference Tournament in Memphis.

U of L crushed Rutgers 92-31 today and will play Houston Friday evening at 7:00.   Chris Jones led the Cards with 18 points, but four others also scored in double figures.  

Houston upset SMU in their quarterfinal game.  

The Indiana Hoosiers have been eliminated from the men’s Big Ten Tournament.  IU lost to Illinois 64-54 this afternoon in first-round play.

College Basketball: Louisville Cardinals Fall in Women's AAC Tourney Final

The University of Louisville women’s basketball team fell short in their bid for an American Athletic Conference Tournament title Monday night. The third-ranked Cardinals lost to number one Connecticut 72-52 in the AAC championship game in Uncasvlle, Conn.

U of L players will now wait a week to find out when and where they’ll play in the NCAA Tournament. The pairings are set for the men’s AAC Tournament in Memphis. Louisville opens play Thursday afternoon against either Rutgers or South Florida.

College Basketball: Senior Day at U of L; UK Visits Florida, IU at Michigan

The University of Louisville men’s basketball team closes out the regular season tomorrow against Connecticut.

It’s the final home game for senior players Russ Smith, Luke Hancock, Stephan Van Treese and Tim Henderson.

Henderson, a Louisville native, earned his spot on the team as a walk-on, and was the hero of last year’s Final Four game against Wichita State, sinking two key three-pointers to lead the Cards to the championship game.

UK's Calipari Trying to Get Players 'Thinking Right' After Late-Season Skid

University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari says he takes the blame for his team’s recent struggles.

The Wildcats have dropped two straight games—including a home loss to Arkansas and Saturday’s upset at South Carolina—heading into the final week of the regular season.  

Calipari was ejected from the South Carolina game after receiving two technical fouls.   He's also come under some criticism for not attending his post-game press conference. 

UK fell from 17th to 25th in this week’s AP poll.

Rupp Arena Overhaul Plans Unveiled

Officials have announced details of a planned $300 million "reinvention" of Lexington’s Rupp Arena.

The design includes a new adjoining convention center, a transparent facade chair-back seats throughout the arena.

Governor Steve Beshear is recommending $65 million in state-issued bonds to help fund the project. Full financing has not been worked out yet.

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray says that’s not a concern.

Former Kentucky Ag Commissioner Richie Farmer Sentenced to 27 Months

Former Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner and University of Kentucky basketball star Richie Farmer has been sentenced to 27 months in prison.

Farmer previously plead guilty to corruption charges for misappropriating government resources while in office. The sentence also requires Farmer to pay over $120,000 in restitution for abusing his power.

Farmer’s attorney Guthrie True says he's disappointed in the ruling. He'd sought to have Farmer serve only 21 months.

Richie Farmer to be Sentenced This Week in Corruption Case

Former Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer will find out this week how much time he’ll have to spend in prison for misappropriating government resources while in office.

Farmer pleaded guilty to two corruption-related counts in September and could spend about two years behind bars.

Federal prosecutors say that, among other things, Farmer used agriculture department employees to peform personal tasks and put friends on the department payroll who did little or no work.

Bobby Petrino will be the Louisville Cardinals' football coach for the second time, the school announced Thursday.

Petrino, 52, has the best win percentage of any Louisville Cardinals football coach and led the team to a major postseason victory in the Orange Bowl. He had a 41-9 record during his first tenure with UofL from 2003 to 2006. In all, he has 83 career win and is known for his team's offensive prowess.

In College Basketball, Kentucky Wildcats Beats Louisville Cardinals 73-66

LEXINGTON — Kentucky guards Andrew and Harrison combined for 28 points, including 11 during a critical second-half stretch with star Julius Randle sidelined by cramps, helping the 18th-ranked Wildcats beat No. 6 Louisville 73-66 on Saturday.

Randle's 17 first-half points staked Kentucky (10-3) to a 41-36 halftime lead before the 6-foot-9 forward went to the locker room early in the second with leg cramps. He returned but cramped again and spent the rest of the game on the bench.

Louisville Cardinals, Kentucky Wildcats 'Ready to Play' in Battle of the Bluegrass

The Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky Wildcats renew their annual men’s basketball rivalry tomorrow  in Lexington.

The defending national champion Cards are 11-1 on season.   The Wildcats are 9-3 and won the title the previous year.

UK coach John Calipari says he’s been trying to get his young team to improve its focus.
